We are quite happy at the end of the César ceremony. Not only because it was funny, stylish and noteworthy, but also because L’Exercice de l’État did not go home empty-handed, contrary to what we feared. Far from it even.
Despite Le Gamin au Vélo being bested by the unavoidable Une Séparation for best foreign film, the Wallimage/Bruxellimage and Les Films du Fleuve camp still kept smiling: Pierre Schoëller’s L’Exercice de l’État took three awards home.
Belgium has fallen prey to a feverish expectation the last few weeks, as Bullhead prepares to take part in the highlight of the film industry: the Oscar ceremony. Whereas nobody believed in its chances just a few months ago, now the film is believed to be a worthy contestant for the final award. A tremendous destiny for this national co-production, co-financed by Wallimage/Bruxellimage.
During the first 2012 session, Wallimage/Bruxellimage decided to take a closer look at the stories of two couples. The board of directors, gathered in Brussels, chose to co-produce two works about the relationship between a man and a woman, in very different ages and conditions, as seen by two generations of talented film makers.
It wasn’t terribly surprising to see that Wallimage and Wallimage/Bruxellimage won an impressive series of awards at the Magritte ceremony: each year both funds invest in around thirty films which, in addition to their economic impact on the region, possess enough quality to make us proud. To win prizes at a national celebration such as the Magrittes as well.
The nominations for the upcoming César ceremony have been released and it was with joy we learned that two Wallimage and Wallimage/Bruxellimage films would be among the contenders on 24th February.
For days, Flanders has celebrated the Oscar nomination for Bullhead. Nearly 500,000 viewers saw the film, and from day one the film received an enthusiast welcome. In Wallonia and Brussels the film could count on firm support as well. This is not at all surprising!
Wallimage/Bruxellimage is ready for it: after only two years, the fund already co-produced an Oscar-nominated film: Rundskop has officially been selected in the category “Best Foreign Film”. Its international title, Bullhead, should become more common now! Other nominees are Footnote, In Darkness, Monsieur Lazhare from Québec and the favourite: Une Séparation, which defeated Le Gamin au Vélo at the Golden Globes.
3 public support measures for CrossMedia with Catalina Briceno (Fonds des Media du Canada), Valérie Burgoin (CNC), Philippe Reynaert and René Broca (Forum Blanc)
The small world of CrossMedia now knows two yearly highlights: “Power to the Pixel” in London and the very dynamic “Forum Blanc” in Grand Bornand. Organised by the same people who are behind the prestigious Annecy Festival, the Cannes for Animation, Forum Blanc invited Wallimage to present their first results. Coincidentally, Il était une fois une fois, one of the six winners of the Digital Promotion first call for projects, just put their entire action online: Facebook pages, a hilarious 2.0 site (click klik HERE, as well as the tweets by Louis de Belgique, which we certainly recommend you to follow!
