“Un Monde Truqué”, based on work by Jacques Tardi

During the 10th session dedicated to animation, the Wallimage board of directors clearly took advantage of the broad array of possibilities offered to them. The Walloon fund will co-finance two new series, a feature film and also awarded a Crossmedia grant for a particularly appealing digital extension, aimed at the youngest.

The selected feature film is an exceptional project. Inspired by the world created by Jacques Tardi, Un Monde truqué meticulously respects the comic book author’s graphic chart and narrative spirit. Based on the principle of alternate universes, our heroes end up in 1941, in a very surprising version of France, devoid of all innovation because all great scientists have been abducted. Who did it? Why did they do it? The investigation will be frenzied, the chase breathtaking. The pioneers from Liège at Digital Graphics (Alleur) and Waooh (PIL) will be a part of this exciting adventure, co-produced by Need. The vocal casting is equally exceptional: Cécile de France, Jean-Paul Rouve, Olivier Gourmet, Nathalie Baye, Jean Rochefort, Bouli Lanners, Garou and Carole Bouquet already said yes.

The session also marks the occasion for Wallimage to support two series. Lilly looks like any other schoolgirl, but there is one difference: she has a secret! Her best friend is Hector, the Dragon, and her favourite book is magical! Together, the duo travels through time and space to exotic countries. During these captivating trips, there is always an obstacle to overcome and a mystery to solve. Inspired by a collection of German children’s books translated in 35 languages, Lilly the Witch will allow Walloon screenwriters to apply their imagination towards a story told following a systematic outline. Two storyboarders will also work on it, while Dame Blanche Genval will take care of the French post-synchronisation. As a co-production between Germany, Austria and France, Lilly was brought to Belgium by Arnauld de Battice for AT-Anim.

The second season of Lulu Vroumette should, logically, follow in the footsteps of the first season which quickly became an audience favourite among the youth broadcasts on France Télévisions. The core team remains the same, so does the theme. Once they are out of the class, Lulu the turtle and her friends spread out over the countryside, ready for new adventures!
The new season will consist of 52 13 minute episodes, half of which will be made in Wallonia, at DreamWall in Charleroi. The project’s promoters have apparently been very happy with their work, as they hired them again while the French operator has been replaced. In Belgium, Araneo is still co-producing this pastoral adventure, and they also submitted the file selected during the last investment session.

Lastly, on the animation side, there is not only co-financing for a television project or film, but also a CrossMedia grant awarded within the framework of the Digital Extension line and with support of Creative Wallonia. Thanks to this line, producers who have been awarded support from either the Walloon or the mixed fund, can present a project destined to promote the original work which develops a parallel world involving internet users in a game, an adventure or autonomous experience.

For Le Petit Spirou, this will consist of the making and online management of a well thought out module, inciting the youngest to create little animated films based on the series, each film being around 30 seconds long. The site will offer a character, object, set and animations library, which can be inserted into a timeline within a real editing module. Of course, the whole operation will be simplified. Once the film is done, the children will be able to publish it with a title sequence showing their name. Belle Productions, DreamWall and Dame Blanche Genval are the three companies working on this project, which is both very playful and pedagogic at the same time. Who knows, maybe the future generation of film will start here...
