Did you really think Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne wouldn't be present for this year's Cannes Festival? Obviously, after presenting Le Silence de Lorna last year, they had no new feature film to woo the selection committee with. But is that a good reason to stay away from La Croisette?
Owning two Golden Palms, one for Rosetta and one for L'Enfant, winners of the Best Scenario award in 2008, they have also provided an opportunity for two of their actors to win the prestigious Best Acting award: Émilie Dequenne won for Rosetta in 1999 and Olivier Gourmet did for Le Fils in 2002. Who does better? No one does. In other words, Cannes cannot do without them.
And thus Jean-Pierre and Luc will give a promising lesson in cinema to an assembled public of festival goers, cinema lovers and journalists in the Buñuel room on Tuesday May 19th, 2.30 PM. Following in the footsteps of Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino as well as Nanni Moretti and Wong Kar Wai, they will discuss their peculiar career, their exchange work, writing screenplays with 4 hands and the meaning they give to their creation with Michel Ciment.
