From February 11 to 21, the 66th Berlin International Film Festival will give you an excellent opportunity to discover THREE new films co-financed by Wallimage. Two of them have been selected to compete in the Panorama series awards: The First, the Last by Belgian filmmaker and actor Bouli Lanners, and Road to Istanbul by Rachid Bouchareb.

In his dark and melancholic western-genre film, Bouli Lanners takes us on the endless road of two bounty hunters hired for a sensitive mission. Along their way, they run into other lost souls – including the gracious Clara played by famous Canadian actress Suzanne Clement. Produced by the Belgian company Versus, the film was released on January 27 in France and will come to Belgium on February 24.

Produced by Arte in collaboration with the Belgian company Scope Pictures, Road to Istanbul will be broadcasted on French and German TV channels while releasing in theatres elsewhere. The film follows a mother fighting to bring her daughter, who has joined jihad in Syria, home. As the script is inspired by a real event that took place in Wallonia, most of the filming actually took place in the Southern region of Belgium and used Belgian actors.

Baden Baden will be premiered at the 46th Forum of the Berlinale. This is Rachel Lang’s first feature film, and it is produced by the Belgian company Tarantula. Finishing a job she hates on a film shoot in Belgium, the 24-year-old Ana impulsively decides to head back to Strasbourg where she grew up as a teenager. Once there, she gets it inside her head that she will replace her grandmother’s bath with a floor-level shower that is more suitable for a senior. Over the course of the summer, during which a broken love affair briefly blossoms again and her grandmother has to go into hospital with a broken hip, Ana does her best to cope with life.

With three films presented at the Berlinale, Wallimage has good reasons to celebrate – and that’s not all yet…!

Belgian actress Martha Canga Antonio was selected as one of ten European Shooting Stars of 2016, showcasing the most promising talents during the Berlinale. Martha is none other than the leading actress of the much buzzed, TIFF-awarded film Black, which was also co-financed by Wallimage.
