Wallimage has just given the green light to eight film projects, five of which were initiated in Belgium. For once, the selection was easy as a number of projects stood out for their quality and potential contribution to the Walloon audiovisual industry. So here we have four feature films, two documentaries and two animated series to come!

Presented by Dragon Film, La naissance des arbres (« The Birth of Trees ») by rising director Laura Wandel is a low budget production we could easily imagine being selected by some international festivals. The film will be 100% made in Belgium, with Dame Blanche Genval handling the post-production.

In his second feature, La vie dans les bois (“Life in the Woods”), Francois Pirot explores with humour and skill the wide question of what to do with our lives. Presented by Tarantula, the film will be shot in Wallonia for one half of the film (16 days), using local material rentals from TSF, lodging from Macadamcar and catering services from Iris. The editing and the VFX will also be handled in Wallonia, respectively by Cineregie and Mikros Liège.

As its name suggests, The Perfect Movie is a promising and also deliriously funny film by director and producer Marc-Henri Wajnberg. This is a hybrid project supported by a soon to be revealed explosive cast. Co-produced in Romania, the film will be mainly shot in Wallonia, using the services of Eye-Lite for lighting, Oufti for the editing and Genval for the sound.

On the documentary side, we can’t wait to discover Agent Double’s fascinating production L’Aumonier et le nazi (« The Chaplain and the Nazi »). Directed by Idriss Gabel, the film showcases the confessions of late Nazi leader Rudolph Hess during his last years of isolation at Spandau. Dame Blanche will manage the post-production, Twins will provide the sound equipment and Stand Up! the work on sound editing.

With L’ecole de l’impossible (“Impossible School”), Thierry Michel returns to the classroom to talk about the challenges of social diversity at school. Produced by Les Films de la Passerelle, the project will be made almost entirely in Wallonia.

Co-produced in Belgium by Scope Pictures, Musique de Chambre (“Chamber Music”) is French director Christophe Honoré’s next film. This is a very intimate drama of intertwining romantic relationships and features an impressive French cast including Chiara Mastroianni, Vincent Lacoste and Camille Cottin. 39 Walloon crew members are taking part in the project, including one assistant director and a camera operator. Eye-Lite, Macadamcar and Iris are also involved in the production, while Studio l’équipe Wallonie/Filmik is involved in the post. We foresee a good candidate for Cannes 2020 here!

Wallimage is also very excited about two animated projects that will each lead to 4000 days of work in Wallonia!

Kid Lucky, which follows the adventures of young Lucky Luke, will be 25% made at Dreamwall studio, involving 25 people, 580 days of layout, 2967 days of animation and 516 days of compositing.

The second animated project, named Hello Charlie and supervised by Be Films, involves Dame Blanche on sound and dubbing, as well as the Liege-based newly revived Waooh ! studio for the layout.

An extra investment round has been added to the agenda. The deadline for submission is November 23 and the meeting-day with the producers is set for December 6.
