Léonard is a genius. More, he is THE genius, THE inventor. We have him to think for the Tower of Pisa, helicopters, whiskey, luggage on wheels and the artificial sea-sickness generator. To name just a few of his improbably yet ...necessary inventions. He is the master of anachronism and impossible combinations. Now, you can certainly fault him for his terrible lack of modesty... or for his tyrannical behaviour. Well, who really should is Basile. His student. Or guinea pig. Depends on how you look at it. The apathetic poor guy suffers the worst mutilations in the comics, while repeating that he “serves science and that brings him joy”. His bed is his haven, but his master has more than one trick up his sleeve to get him out of there. Sometimes he’s also inventive, and he contributed to science too: we thank him for the machine to voyage to the present and the Basile method (wrongfully attributed to Coué).
The adventures of Léonard sold more than 6 million copies, each new title being printed on around 75,000 copies. The one and only genius knows no borders and his inventions have been spread in 15 languages, from Chinese to English.
