Wallimage in Berlin: an Irish legend!?

  • 01.02.2009

And there’s more good news! Brendan and the Secret of Kells, the next film co-produced by Wallimage to hit our screens, will also be making news in Berlin. In fact, it was shortlisted for the Prix Génération, one of the festival’s six sections, judged by a group of young cinephiles. Last year, this category, which is awarded a Crystal Bear, saw the crowning of Buddha Collapsed Out Of Shame byHana Makhmalbaf.
Brendan and the Secret of Kells is a French-Belgian-Irish animated film directed by Tomm Moore, co-produced in Belgium by Viviane Vanfleteren and partly animated by our friends at Digital Graphics in Liège. It hits cinemas on February 11.
The rumors that precede it are most flattering. Its distinctive aesthetic and convoluted, Celtic-illuminated script are surprisingly bold and original. With a comfortable budget of 6 million euros, this veritable work of art is a radical departure from anything seen on the big screen to date. After the triumph of Triplettes de Belleville (also co-produced by Vivi Film), he confirms that the old continent can still make its voice heard in a field thought to have become the exclusive property of the USA and Japan.
