In Versailles, too, there is no shortage of challenges. The new favorite of the king, Madame de Maintenon, leads him to an absolutist behavior which is not without causing important dissensions at the Court. Little by little, Louis XIV no longer tolerates any dissent, whether from his people, from the Protestants, or from the pope himself.
