Illégal wins SACD prize in Cannes

Some films may not star in the official competition, but this does not mean they cannot win any awards. Illégal, featured in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, just received the SACD prize (Société des Auteurs et Compositeurs Dramatiques) – the equivalent of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain. It comes with €4000, and rewards a French-spoken film. Olivier Masset-Depasse wrote the screenplay and directed the film. Produced by Versus, co-financed by Wallimage, it handles the topic of illegal immigration and has completely won over the public and the critics, hence the standing ovation lasting over six minutes.
