The Ostend Film Festival came to an end on 11 September. Dozens of features were presented, some even for the first time. Awards were also distributed.
For the first time a professional jury awarded the Vlaamse Filmprijzen to the best Flemish films of the year, divided over nine categories. Unsurprisingly De Helaasheid der dingen won in five out of eight categories.
Ostend is also the place where the Fonskes are awarded, a more traditional prize. This year the fabulous Mr. Nobody was crowned best Belgian film of the year 2010. Jaco Van Dormael received the prestigious statuette made by sculptor Jef Claerhout. It represents “the source of wisdom”, very fitting for the film and the character!
