Wallimage brings the genre to Critics' Week

Last Thursday, we announced the selection of two films co-financed by Wallimage in the official selection of Cannes. This week, it is the turn of the other major sections of the Festival to present the works they have selected. With another nice surprise in store.

The Critics’ Week is one of the major sections of the Cannes Film Festival, along with the Official Selection (in competition, out of competition, Un Certain Regard) and the Directors’ Fortnight. Since 1962, when it was created by the French Union of Film Critics, it has been dedicated to the discovery of young talent, by honouring their first and second feature films. Promising works, different, that challenge.

Among the seven (yes, only seven) films in competition, we find with delight Vivarium by the Irish Lorcan Finnegan co-produced in Belgium by Frakas with its historical Irish partner, Fantastic Film, associated for the occasion with the Danish Pingpong Film.

Before embarking on this exciting adventure, Jean-Yves Roubin and Brendan McCarthy had already co-produced Jaume Balaguero’s Muse and Sea Fever, whose first images are eagerly awaited. Like Sea Fever (and Grave before them), the Vivarium project was presented to professionals thanks to the Frontiers Platform, with which Wallimage has been associated for several years. This is a metaphysical fantasy film that is already fascinating on paper and seems to be even more so on the screen. Intriguing too, like its pitch : in search of their first home together, a young couple follow a mysterious real estate agent and find themselves trapped in a strange residential area.

Much like the famous Hotel California, you are welcome to stay. But to get out of it, it’s a business.

Imogen Poots (Green Room) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) came to shoot this delicious paranoid delirium in a warehouse in the suburbs of Liège, where the exteriors of the infernal district had been reconstructed. The visit on this shooting was rather impressive.

So it is indeed again a genre film that allows us to dock the Croisette after Mandy last year or Alleluia in 2014. Another point of pride !
