The list of nominated films for the 2016 edition has just been announced in Los Angeles with a tremendous satisfaction at the end : The Brand New Testament is nominated in the Best Foreign Film category. It will be opposed to four films : Mustang (France), the traumatic Son of Saul (Hungary), but also two works less known here : The Club (Chile) and The Fencer (Finland).

This year’s awards will be presented on January 10.

Even if the winners are not always the same, the Golden Globes are often considered the last step before the Oscars. Good news for Jaco Van Dormael’sfourth feature film, which represents us in the race for the Academy Awards.

The least we can say is that the director and his team have been going from happy to excellent surprises for a few weeks.

Starting this Saturday, December 12, The Brand New Testament will participate in Berlin at the 28th European Film Awards where it is nominated in the category ” Best European Comedy of the Year ” ( le Chant de la mer, another film co-financed by Wallimage, could win the prize for best animated film)

The film is also in the running for the Satellites Awards which will take place on February 21 in Los Angeles, one week before the Oscars. In the Best Foreign Film category, it will face ten films, including Son of Saul (Hungary), Mustang(France) (two diehards), The Assassin (Taiwan) or or A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (Denmark).

Formerly known as the Golden Satellite Awards, the Satellite Awards are American film and television awards, organized by the International Press Academy (IPA) since 1997.

Last year, Two Days, One Night by the Dardenne brothers was nominated alongside Timbuktu, Mommy and Leviathan . To everyone’s surprise, it was the Estonian Tangerines that won the prize.
