On Friday evening, the Belgian gaming industry attended the Belgian Games Award to celebrate its talents and to discover a preview of the new Walloon mechanism especially dedicated to video games, presented by Domenico la Porta, gaming expert at Wallimage Entreprises.
The announcement was made during the 2nd edition of the 1UP conference, which brought together giants, international experts, professionals and other enthusiasts of the gaming industry.
In order to better respond to the needs of the market, Wallimage Entreprises has recently put in place financing modalities adapted to the gaming sector. The financial aid, which can reach €75,000 in pre-production and €500,000 in production, and is granted in the form of conditionally recoverable advances, aims to structure the Walloon Region’s gaming industry in the long term, for the benefit of all video game creators and technicians. The fund has had this mechanism notified to the European Commission.
This is a giant step forward for the gaming industry, and for Wallimage Entreprises which has been fighting for years to have the sector recognized as an integral part of the Walloon audiovisual offer. These new lines of financing come in addition to the classic actions of Wallimage Entreprises, which has been investing in video game studios since its creation. They demonstrate the Region’s genuine desire to capitalize on the growth potential and creative power of a booming sector that has now been indisputably identified as strategic for the local economy.
